My husband and I love the beach. We take vacations to the beach, we talk about retiring close to a beach and we even got married on the beach! It seemed natural for us to have a beach theme baby nursery, but not just any beach theme; a surf-inspired nursery.
Create A Beach Theme Baby Nursery
We didn’t find out the gender of our first-born, so this Tommy Bahama “RELAX” plaque was the inspiration for our beach theme baby nursery. We kept everything very simple, and chose a brown crib and a brown leather glider. The crib sheets are white as well as the crib skirt. The one piece in the room that has color is the dresser.
We bought the dresser off of Craigslist. I love this dresser because it is low enough and long enough to double as a changing table. Our rooms are not large, so I didn’t want to have another piece of furniture in the nursery to use as a changing table. We painted the dresser an aqua blue with latex paint. I would highly suggest painting furniture with chalk paint or milk paint instead of latex. We had to sand, prime and then paint two coats of the latex paint. Since then, I have painted numerous pieces of furniture without sanding and priming, by using chalk paint. I have collected stickers from Ron Jon Surf Shops all across the US and have placed them on the sides of the dresser to give it more of a surf look. We also replaced the knobs on the dresser with hand-painted surfboard knobs which I found on amazon and absolutely love them. Finally, we bought a surf board rug to go on the floor.
I love our surf-inspired, beach theme baby nursery and it worked great for our oldest as well as our youngest! It’s a calming room that transports me to the beach when I’m sitting in the glider and rocking my baby boy!
