Are you a Harry Potter fan? Looking for Harry Potter- inspired Halloween decorations? I’ve got you covered! Today I am sharing these fabulous Harry Potter- inspired potion bottles. These have been a HUGE hit since I shared them last year.
Confession time: I made these last year even though I had never read a single page of a Harry Potter book. Now that my oldest is 8, we have read the first two books together and we love them! I can totally understand the obsession with Harry Potter!
How to Make Harry Potter- Inspired Potion Bottles
I used empty glass condiment bottles, including an old syrup bottle and an expired teriyaki sauce bottle. Rummage through your cabinets and fridge and you might find expired condiments in glass bottles!
You don’t even have to remove the labels. This may have just been laziness on my part, but I tried to remove the syrup bottle label and it tore off. I left the majority of the label on the bottle and simply painted over it.
You can use any black paint you have. I actually used watered down Black Chalk Paste and painted it on with a paint brush.
Next, I used Shimmer Copper Chalk Paste and rubbed it with my finger on the bottles to give the potion bottles a distressed and vintage look.
I used THIS stencil, Shimmer Silver Chalk Paste and a little more Black Chalk Paste to create the design on the bottle. The stencils are Chalk Couture and if you don’t know much about Chalk Couture, they make reusable silk-screen stencils, removable chalk paste, permanent ink, accessories and surfaces. The Chalk Paste and ink are applied with a squeegee to the silk-screen stencils (called transfers). I love using Chalk Couture because it is low-tech….no expensive machine or confusing computer program needed to create beautiful DIY projects!
Finally, I used an old Prosecco cork and an old liquor bottle cork to top off the bottles. They truly look like potion bottles from Harry Potter!
Check out the quick video below to see how I made these!

I also used one of the stencils to make this adorable bookmark! I made this live over on Facebook. You can check it out HERE.
All I did was use the stencil on a piece of cardstock and added magnets to the bottom so that it hugs the page. My son LOVES it for his Harry Potter books!
