Have you seen the new craze, making giant snowflakes from lunch bags? Today I am sharing this step-by-step tutorial on how to create paper bag snowflakes.
This is a SUPER easy and inexpensive Christmas decoration because you don’t need much and if you have kids at home, you probably have some lunch bags laying around. One of the things I love about this DIY Christmas craft is that you can leave these up all winter long!
Let’s jump in to the tutorial. Are you more of a visual person? Check out this VIDEO TUTORIAL HERE.
Paper Bag Snowflakes
Here’s what you need:
8 Paper lunch sacks (you can use white or natural)
Glue (I used my hot glue gun, but a glue stick is a great alternative especially if you are doing this with kids)
Scissors
Twine
Hole punch
First, you will need 8 paper bags per snowflake. Start by placing your first paper bag on a table with the flap side down and the opening of the bag facing you. This is the flap side ⇓
Next, grab your glue and make a “T” shape. Place the next bag right on top and repeat until all 8 bags are glued together in a stack.
Now it’s time to start cutting! *pro tip* don’t cut the bag where the flap is. Keep your cuts below the folded line.
You can make random cuts, but I tried to make symmetrical cuts on both sides of the bag.
This is where you can use your creativity. Feel free to use a pencil and mark your cut lines before you start snipping!
Once you’ve made all your cuts, grab your glue and make another “T” on the top of the stack.
Now is the fun part! Carefully slide your hand inside of the bottom paper bag and the top paper bag (be careful if you are using hot glue!). Gently bring the two ends together to create the
snowflake!
Finally, if you want to hang your paper bag snowflakes, you can use a hole punch to punch a hole in the top of the paper bags and string some twine through the hole.
Isn’t this so easy? I am absolutely addicted to making paper bag snowflakes because they are so pretty, and you can use them anywhere. These would make beautiful classroom decorations or on the inside of a window or door.
I added a little embellishment on one of my snowflakes using Chalk Couture. Don’t know much about Chalk Couture? START HERE!
