How to Clean a Chalk Couture Ink Mat

Hello! I’m betting since you are here, you have a dirty, un-sticky ink mat. I’ve been there and today I am going to share how to clean your Chalk Couture ink mat so that it is ink-free and sticky again!

Chalk Couture ink mats are a necessity when inking fabric. The mat serves two purposes.

First- it keeps the ink from bleeding to the back side of the fabric. This is especially important when inking pillows and t-shirts that have two sides.

Second- the mat is sticky, so it holds the fabric in place while you are applying the ink with a squeegee.

There are two different ink mats. The first is the SQUARE INK MAT which measures 17×17 inches. This mat is PERFECT for inking pillow cases, especially this square PILLOW COVER.

The other ink mat is the RECTANGULAR INK MAT which measures 11×23 inches. This mat is perfect for cutting into smaller pieces. You can cut both ink mats, but the rectangular one was made to be cut up.

First, spray the mat with windex. Let the windex sit on the mat for one minute. Next, use the Chalk Couture PASTE SCRAPER and start scraping the fibers and built-up ink off of the mat.

You want to get the layer of gunk off of the mat, but you don’t want to scrape the adhesive off, so use just enough pressure to get the build-up off. Repeat the scraping a few times until all the fabric fibers and ink reside is gone.

Finally, rinse the mat under cold water, and wipe with a disinfectant wipe. Allow the mat to completely air dry, and you will have a clean, sticky mat ready to use again!
