Kitchen Hutch Makeover Using Annie Sloan Chalk Paint

A few years ago I bought a china hutch at an auction.  I got a great deal on it and had no idea what I was going to do with it.  After a few months after moving into our town home we realized that we were short on storage and counter space in the kitchen.  I decided to take the top shelves off of the hutch and refinish the bottom; therefore, turning a grand china hutch into a space-saving kitchen hutch.  Read on to learn about my fabulous kitchen hutch makeover.Check out this kitchen hutch makeover using Annie Sloan Chalk Paint!

Kitchen Hutch Makeover

First, I used three colors of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint on the hutch.  I mixed Louis Blue and Provence to make a custom blue color for the main part of the hutch.  Next, the top of the hutch was painted with two coats of Graphite to create a dark black look.  One of the things I love about this kitchen hutch makeover is that there is a definite contrast between the top and bottom of the hutch.

The bottom of the hutch was painted with very sloppy, quick strokes using a chip brush.  I did not cover the entire hutch with the custom blue; in fact, I purposefully left parts of the wood showing through to give the hutch a distressed look.  I also used a mix of both Annie Sloan dark and clear wax to give the hutch more character. You will love this kitchen hutch I made over with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint.

The top of the hutch was painted in two coats of graphite and sealed with two coats of Annie Sloan dark wax.  I love the contrast of the full-coverage top and the distressed bottom.

To tie the top and bottom together, I replaced all of the hardware on the hutch with black iron hardware which I found at a local craft store.Check out this kitchen hutch!

This kitchen hutch is now a focal piece in our kitchen, and it adds color and character to an otherwise simple and basic room.  We love having the extra storage!  The kitchen hutch houses our toaster, my kitchen aid, the juicer and a few other larger appliances.  Consequently, freeing up counter space in our small kitchen.I love this bright kitchen hutch!

If you have a small kitchen, then you know how precious counter top space is.  Adding a kitchen hutch is a perfect solution for storage as well as a great way to showcase a lovely piece of furniture.
