Hello and Happy Halloween! If you are hosting guests or just want to make a spooky drink, you must try this Day of the Dead cocktail. We are a little obsessed with the Day of the Dead (Dia De Los Muertos) since the movie Coco came out. I have made pillows, a sign and now a cocktail inspired by the movie. My husband and I also bought face paint that we plan to use for Halloween so we can dress up as characters from the movie.
This is the last week in our fall cocktail series, so don’t forget to check out the other Halloween-themed cocktails!

This Day of the Dead cocktail is absolutely delicious. The sugar-rimmed glass, the pineapple slice and the tequila perfectly compliment each other. Let’s start with what you need.
Tequila
Ginger Beer
Pineapple Juice
Black Sugar
Pineapple Slice
How to Make a Day of the Dead Cocktail:
First start with rimming the martini glass with black sugar. To do this, you will need to put a little simple syrup (sugar water) in a shallow bowl. Dip just the rim of the glass into the syrup, making sure to coat the entire rim. Next, in a separate bowl, sprinkle the black sugar into the bowl and swirl the rim of the glass into the sugar. The sugar will stick to the syrup, resulting in a beautifully, sugar-rimmed martini glass.
Next, mix up your cocktail. Pour about 2 ounces of tequila and 2 ounces of pineapple juice into a shaker with ice. (I bought a can of pineapple rings in 100% juice and just used that juice.) Shake up the tequila, juice and ice and then strain into the glass, making sure you don’t get any of the drink on the rim. Top with cold ginger beer and garnish with a pineapple rim.
To take this Day of the Dead cocktail to the next level of spooky, I dipped a toothpick into black get food coloring and made lines on the pineapple rim before adding it to the martini. I love the way it kinda looks like black veins in the fruit!
