Father’s Day is coming up soon (June 19th to be exact)! Have you thought about what you will give the Dad in your life? I have the perfect DIY Father’s Day gift idea that every dad will love.
Last year I wanted to do something special for my husband for Father’s Day to show him how much we appreciate all he does for our family. My husband is an amazing dad to our two boys and he didn’t want anything for father’s day. He’s always telling me not to spend money on him and just put it away in the boys’ college fund. He simply wanted to spend the day with his boys…at a baseball game! I decided to make him a homemade Father’s Day gift using pictures of our kids over the past year.
Supply List:
- Pictures
- Thin cardboard (or poster board)
- Mod Podge (and brush for applying the Mod Podge)
- Scissors
I ordered a bunch of pictures of our family (mostly the boys) from Costco. (Seriously, my favorite place to have prints made!)
I used the letters from our alphabet floor mat to trace the “DAD” onto thin pieces of cardboard and then cut the letters out (of course you could draw the letters yourself or print out letters in any font to trace onto the cardboard or poster board).
I cut the pictures to make a collage and used mod podge to glue them to the cardboard letters.
I cleaned up the edges with my good scissors once all the pictures were glued. Finally, I covered the letters with a coat of mod podge to seal the collage and give it a nice finish.
I framed the collage letters in a huge shadow-box frame that I had bought on sale a few months back. I also added the boys’ footprints (cut in a heart-shape) with their names and the year.
My husband absolutely loves this DIY Father’s Day gift, and it hangs in our bedroom as a reminder of what a fantastic dad he is!
