The other day I was chatting with a group of moms. The conversation came up about “what’s next?”. Here’s the thing- we all went to college, started a career, got married, bought a house, had kids….now what? What’s next? All of the moms in the group felt this way…except me. I was the only one who felt differently. The reason is because about three years ago, I found joy in a hobby that has become a creative business. If you are in a rut and looking for what’s next, you are in luck. Today I’m sharing my journey of finding joy in a hobby.
If you don’t know much about me, I am married, have a full time job, two kids and a dog. I also run a creative online business. About 20 years ago I was told “your job should not fulfill all of your needs”. That advice is golden. My job is a good job that helps me provide for my family, but I don’t get to be creative at work. I had to search out a way to be creative and satisfy that need to create projects. I have a passion for DIY, home decor and crafting, and it is truly my happy place. That being said, I don’t find that at work, so I do it on the side.
Finding Joy in a Hobby
Having a creative outlet is something that I truly need. Do you feel the same way? Can you spend hours on Pinterest, walking through Michael’s or Hobby Lobby? You might need to look for a way to be creative. Today, I am sharing my path with you and if you think this might be the path you want to take, I would love for you to join me!
Like I said, I love being creative and I could spend my entire salary from my day job on craft supplies (if I didn’t have other financial obligations). So when I was looking for a way to be creative, I wanted to make enough money to sustain my crafting hobby.
A friend reached out to me in June of 2018 and told me she had found this brand new company and thought I needed it in my life. She was right! I joined Chalk Couture as an independent designer the next day.
There are many ways to make money from a creative business. You can do in-person craft nights, craft fairs or vendor shows, online selling and demonstrations….the possibilities are endless. If you don’t really want to run a creative business, you can simply join to fulfill that need to be creative!

Although I wanted a creative outlet, I didn’t know that joining this company would also give me a place to fit in. I am surrounded by an amazing (and creative) tribe of women who inspire and support each other. If you had told me that my hobby would send me (and my husband) on a one-week, all inclusive cruise to the Caribbean, I would have jumped on sooner!
I’m not searching for the next thing or longing for what’s next. I am content and happy with the balance of my job, family, and my business (which started as a hobby). If you want to chat with me about the opportunity, please reach out! One of the best places to find me is over on Facebook.
