One of my very best friends had a beautiful apron made for me five years ago. It was a bridal shower gift and it has my monogram embroidered on it. It is really beautiful, and the first gift I received with my married monogram. I have always loved this apron-so much so, that I used it often and eventually stained it so badly that it just sat in a closet for the past two years. I have always wanted to repurpose this apron since I hated the idea of throwing away such a sentimental gift.
When I was cleaning out my kitchen the other day I was looking for a storage box to keep all of my baking and decorating supplies (piping bags, pastry tips, cookie cutters, etc.). I ended up just throwing them into an amazon box that was sitting in the recycling pile (on my kitchen table). I decided to repurpose the apron to cover the box, and I am so glad I did! Now the box looks pretty, my stuff is contained, I get to see that beautiful monogram and think about my friend whenever I look at it.
Supplies:
- Apron
- Amazon Box
- Box Cutter
- Scissors
- Hot glue gun/ hot glue
How to:
- Cut the top flaps of the box off to give the box a nice edge.
- Iron the apron so that it lies flat against the box and doesn’t have any wrinkles.
- Cut your fabric. I didn’t use a ruler to measure where I needed to cut since the box was fairly small. I just held the fabric up to the box and cut along the lines in the pattern on the fabric (and avoided the stained parts).
- Begin hot gluing starting from the bottom of the box. I folded the fabric under the bottom of the box about a half an inch and glued that down first. Then I put some hot glue on the outside of the box and pulled up my fabric, smoothing it over the outside of the box. I left about an inch and a half to fold over on the inside of the box. Of course, you can cover the inside, but since this box was going to be completely filled (and I didn’t have enough fabric) I only went about an inch and a half down the inside of the box and glued that down.
That was it. Super simple!
