Hello and welcome! I am so excited to be sharing our first summer house tour with you all. This is our first summer in our new house and I would love to show you around. We just moved in this past fall, so we are still settling in, but I have a few things to show you. Grab a cup of coffee (or a glass of wine) and come on in.
One of the things I love about this house is our black front door. It makes wreaths pop, like this Summer wreath I made. Want to make your own? Click here for the tutorial.
I also added a few pots out front. We live about 45 minutes from the most amazing greenhouse, Catoctin Mountain Growers. They are only open to the public a few times a year. This year I bought a bunch of small plants and made my own pot with different flowers and filler.
Our front porch isn’t huge, but it is the perfect size for our rocker and bench which I picked up (for practically nothing) at the annual Johnsville Labor Day Auction. Read all about it here.

I also bought the milk can at an auction. I wanted to add something to make it unique, so I painted a pineapple using a stencil I created with my Cricut. See the full tutorial here, showing you how to do it.
Summer House Tour- Come on In!
As soon as you enter our house, you are greeted by this lovely marble-top dresser in our entryway niche. Click here to see how I restored this dresser! We almost had the builder eliminate this space because it was originally an “art” niche with a step at the bottom. With little kids, we don’t have art other than what our boys create. It was funny when the sales manager with the builder suggested we put a large vase in the space. With a (then) 2 year old and 4 year old, my husband and I both laughed out loud at the thought of our boys destroying a vase which would be at their eye-level!
We worked with the builder to make changes to the space to fit this dresser, and it could not be a more perfect space. Read all about making upgrades and changes to new construction here.
I made this welcome sign out of a piece of scrap wood. I used the same technique as before when I made a diy wooden sign.
I added a few books, some vintage mason jars (which I also got at the Johnsville auction), and a white pitcher with some cotton stems. The wreath is also a DIY. I made a twig and moss wreath a couple of years ago. Click to read about this wreath, which is featured at Jenna Kate at Home.
I wanted to add these lovely glass pineapples to the top of the dresser, but as I said earlier, I have little boys who don’t like to leave things alone! Instead, our pineapple collection is on the mantle below the television.
Our kitchen is a large open space which is perfect for entertaining. We definitely plan to host a few get-togethers this summer! Check out the simple change I made to our hardware to give our kitchen a more custom look.
Love the rug? We do too! In fact, we are thinking of buying the 12 foot one for the upstairs hall!
I also added to our bar collection recently with this lovely copper pitcher and copper mugs!
I saved the best for last….
Our sun room is my favorite thing about our summer house tour! It is the most relaxing room in the house and just looking at a picture of this room helps me chill out!
Hope you enjoyed this virtual visit to our home! I wish I could invite everyone over for cocktails this summer! How fun would that be?!
