If you are a new Independent Designer, congratulations! My Chalk Couture journey has been so fulfilling and I am sure it will be for you as well. If you are not a Chalk Couture Independent Designer, you can sign up here for just $99! Teaching Chalk Couture classes is one of my favorite ways to share the amazing products with customers. It gives them the opportunity to see a live demonstration and get hands-on with the amazing products.
If you are at a loss as to how to teach a class, then keep reading. First of all, you will need people to attend your class. A great place to start is with the people you know. Your friends, family and neighbors. Have your first class be with people you know and I promise you will have success!

What kind of classes can I teach as a Chalk Couture Independent Designer?
Demonstration
A demonstration class is usually a very short class which is free to attend. This is a great idea to do at your local library or at a friend’s house. You will have order forms available for people attending to order products, but you are the only one who will make something. Successful demonstration parties or classes usually include light snacks or drinks. Make sure you know the rules if you are doing this at a public place like the local library.
Demonstration Tips:
- GATHER EMAIL ADDRESSES! My number one tip is to gather every attendee’s email address. By doing this, you can email them directly with information regarding the products. Your email address is key- it is the only list you own. You don’t own Facebook or Instagram. You might have a bunch of followers, but how many of them actually see what you post? If you can email people directly, they are more likely to see what you have to offer.
- Have order forms and get people to buy before they leave. Like most things, people get excited when they see a demonstration. By the time they get home, the excitement has worn off. Get people to purchase items AT THE DEMONSTRATION class.
Make-and-Take
A make-and-take is just like it sounds. People pay a fee up front and will create a project at a set location with the Independent Designer as the instructor. All attendees will go home with their creation. This is a fun way to gain new customers and book more parties. Make-and-take parties are generally held at someone’s home.
Make-and-Take tips:
- Demonstrate how to use the products from start to finish. Take a fresh transfer out of the bag…show them how to cut the transfer (if it is one that has multiple pieces). Show them how to fuzz, lay the transfer, mix the paste, apply the paste and remove the transfer. Finally, you will absolutely want to teach your group how to clean the transfers, squeegee AND the surface! Yup- wipe that design right off! My groups always LOVE seeing how easily the Chalkology paste comes off. The removability is a big selling point to Chalk Couture, so don’t skip this step when you demonstrate the product. Don’t forget to show them how to place the transfers back on the backing paper and store them too!
- Allow your group to go at their own pace. Although my classes are usually only two hours long, try to allow everyone to take their time. Let them mess up and reapply the paste. Maybe let them do the back side of the surface as well. Give them plenty of opportunities to work with the product. If they are happy with their design, they are more likely to do it again and remain a customer.
- I would highly suggest working with a Chalk Couture surface for your first make-and-take. I would not use canvas or anything that is permanent. Again, the big selling point is that the paste is removable. Using quality Chalk Couture surfaces and the removable paste is important for customers to get to know the products’ versatility.
You want your group to be successful and happy with their creations. After all, they paid to make and take something that they would want to put in their home! READ THIS to learn everything you need to know to host a successful make-and-take.
Debut
This class is done when you first become an Independent Designer. Invite all of your friends, family, co-workers and neighbors (literally, anyone in your contacts). Have the products from your Starter Kit out to show them and maybe even allow them to try the products out.
Debut Tips:
- Have a board out and some small transfers so your group can try out the products and see how easy they are to work with.
- Have a catalogue out for your guests can browse.
- Have order forms for people to order!
- Gather email addresses and add them to your email list.
Hope this guide is helpful to you and if you have any questions, feel free to reach out! I’m always happy to help out a fellow CC Designer!
