Welcome to our virtual Christmas Cocktail party!! I am joining up with 5 other bloggers to bring you the best Christmas cocktails this holiday season. Including my brother’s Slay Ride cocktail. Make sure you scroll down to see the other Christmas cocktails. They are AMAZING!
First of all, let me introduce you to my brother. This is Stephen. He’s two years younger than me and has traveled all over the world! He and I spent a couple of years together at the same college (Southwest Texas State University…go Bobcats!). While we were in college, both of us worked as bartenders. Not at the same bar; but when you live in a college town, there are lots of opportunities for bartenders 😉
I’m not sure when Stephen invented this drink, but for at least the last dozen years he has always made it around the holidays. It is a bit of a twist on a Hot Toddy. He named it the Slay Ride. Before you correct me, I know sleigh is misspelled. My maiden name is Slayton, so it is a play on the word sleigh, but spelled like the beginning of our last name.

Slay Ride
2 oz Bourbon
1 Tablespoon Honey
1 Tablespoon Lemon Juice
3/4 Cup of Hot Water
3 Whole Cloves
1 Cinnamon Stick
In a glass, pour the bourbon, honey, lemon juice in together. Add the cloves. Slowly add the hot water and sir until the honey dissolves. Add a cinnamon stick as a garnish.
Of course, you can adjust the lemon and honey to your taste. The cloves are what make this drink truly unique.
I love the way this drink smells. It is perfect when you are fighting a winter cold, or just want to cuddle up with a warm drink in front of the fireplace.
